Sterling silver chains may oxidize more quickly especially in the ocean or any hot tub or pool with chemicals. Gold filled may last longer but is not solid gold so discoloration for “permanent” wear may occur. Most white gold is rhodium plated, so that plating may wear off very quickly, and your bracelet will not appear as bright “white” as it did when it was welded on. 14k solid gold is going to last forever with no discoloration but will be significantly more expensive depending on the chain. It is important to note that everyone is different. We can react differently to certain metals based on things we eat and drink, products we use, and places we may submerge our jewelry. Many people are allergic to white gold because of the nickel content. All of these things need to be taken into consideration prior to making the decision to get a permanent piece. In the event of emergency or if you need to remove your permanent jewelry for any reason, simply cut it off with sharp scissors or cutting pliers. We do not recommend permanent jewelry for infants or toddlers, however we leave that up to the discretion of the parents.
