How to get adhesive to adhere to door and trunk seals - BMW 2002 and other '02 - BMW 2002 FAQ

Can anyone suggest a solvent or method to get 3M weatherstrip adhesive to stick to my new URO door seals and OEM BMW trunk seal? I used laquer thinner to clean the rubber prior to installation but the glue just doesn't stick to the rubber and in places is loose. Glue sticks just fine to the paint
