Ball hones and stone hones should NEVER be used on plated cylinders. They will do extreme damage to the plating. This tool does NOT apply a cross-hatch finish, it just removes microscopic peaks and scuffs and removes oil and carbon deposits. It's very mild on the plating and easy to use.   Jeff Slavens
