This Moravian star, made of hard Maple, was created by an artisan in Raleigh, North Carolina. His stars are made using only salvaged and repurposed woods. The maple for this star had been intended to be sections of a carpenter's folding ruler but the pieces had been cut too short to be used. For this craftsman, though, the pieces worked perfect for his creation. Every star will have the maker's mark imprinted on it and will include a tag explaining the wood's origin. This star measures approximately 4.75 in diameter. A lovely handcrafted item to be displayed all year long.
Moravian stars were traditionally made during the Advent season in nineteenth-century Moravian boys' boarding schools. Because of this historians
