Superfatting or Lye Discount Every oil has a unique saponification value - the SAP value. This value determines the amount of sodium hydroxide necessary to transform the oil into soap. If you use less sodium hydroxide than wha the recipe calls for, you can obtain a more moisturising - or to better say - "superfatted" soap.
