Description

Harvesting seashells for crafts and souvenirs is a large-scale global industry that involves many species and yet is little known with many tourists happily buying shells at local markets. Numerous mollusk species have been placed at severe risk due to this illegal overexploitation and market. Global awareness is required to reduce demand. People may mistakenly think that someone just gathered shells lying on a beach, rather than that they’d been obtained as part of an industrial-scale enterprise. We are all responsible to make wise choices that limit out negative impact on this planet! A blog post by conservation photographer Peter Chadwick
