The Progenitor was a Celestial who was infected by the Horde and died on the newly formed planet Earth. This event is said to be the origin of life on Earth and the reason for why so many of Earth's inhabitants have superpowers. In the modern era, the Progenitor's corpse became Avengers Mountain after it was raised from beneath the Arctic Ocean by the other Celestials as a gift to the Avengers.
