Florida Broad Leaf
55 days — 'Florida Broad Leaf' plants grow in a semi-upright habit, reach sixteen to twenty-two inches tall, and have oval, eight inch by eight inch, dark green leaves. A very vigorous and productive variety. The first mention of 'Florida Broad Leaf' mustard that we could find was in the 1925 seed catalog of Chris Reuter of New Orleans. They introduced it with the following description:This new variety is quite distinct from the Large Smooth or the Chinese Broad Leaf in that the plants are larger and taller growing and remain in condition for use much longer without bolting to seed. The leaves are large, comparatively smooth and have a distinct broad mid-rib. It produces considerably more leaf growth than other sorts and the leaves when cooked are of excellent quality. A valuable addition to the list of varieties heretofore offered.
By the end of the 1920s, it was being offered in nearly all of the established Southern seed houses either under this name or as Florida Broadleaf mustard. Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 350 seeds.
