A frequent question we receive is whether or not men’s and women’s ring sizes are the same. While most people know that our silicone rings are made from durable, quality materials and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, many people wonder about the sizing. So, let’s take a look at whether or not men’s and women’s rings are sized the same!  What to Use to Size a Ring There are many different ways to measure ring size. For example, the Gemological Institute of America has created a variety of tools for professional jewelers to use to measure ring size. However, the average person doesn’t have access to these tools. That’s why it’s so important to know how to measure ring size without using professional tools! Here are some ways you can size a ring without needing professional tools: Use string. Wrap a thin piece of string around your finger. Make note of where the string overlaps. Then, measure the distance from the start of the string to where it overlapped. After completing that step, you can take the measurement of the start of the string to where the overlap point was and use that length to learn your ring size.  Browse Our Collection of Silicone Rings Use a current piece of jewelry. If you have a piece of jewelry that you wear frequently, you can take it to a jeweler and they can tell you what the ring’s size actually is. For people who’ve worn the same ring for decades, it’s easy to forget what size the ring is because you never have to worry about it. It just fits on your finger and you wear it! Source: Aleona/Shutterstock.com How Men’s and Women’s Sizing Works There’s no real difference between men’s ring sizes and women’s ring sizes. Unlike clothing, ring sizing is on a spectrum. Traditionally speaking, most men have larger fingers than women. Because of this, they tend to have larger ring sizes. Where most women wear between a 7 – 8.5 in their rings, most men wear between a size 9 – 10.5. Ring sizes can go as large as 14 and as small as a size 5. Where a person’s size lands depends on a few different things.  Genetics: Some people have larger fingers than others. That’s just a simple fact. We really don’t need to explain this one too much more, right? Wear Silicone Rings That Won’t Be Too Tight Weight: People who weigh a bit more typically carry some of that weight in their fingers (but not always). However, if you like a thinner band, then keeping your ring at the size you’re measured at is always a good idea. While sizes for rings exist on a spectrum, our men’s wedding bands tend to be cut thicker than the bands for women. This can make them seem bigger. The customer may have to order them a size up from what they usually wear.  Can I Resize My Silicone Band? We get this question a lot, especially in regards to our wedding bands for women. While we can’t resize your silicone band, you can easily order the next size up or down (depending on the fit you need), or you can shrink your silicone band. While we don’t recommend shrinking your silicone band, some customers have found that this simple fix was all they needed instead of waiting for a new ring to be shipped to them.  How Will I Know if My Band Fits Right? Great question! You’ll know if your silicone band fits correctly because it will be snug but won’t hurt when you wear it. Your skin won’t swell over the band, get itchy or appear red or warm to the touch. Conversely, your ring also won’t slide off your finger when you lay your hand down perpendicular to the ground. Instead, your ring should stay securely put on your hand. If your band slides off or appears too tight, you’ll want to contact our customer service to start your ring replacement process.
